Walton Woods

Google Maps will get you there with: Walton Woods Park, Amherst, New York

40 degrees, 12:45 PM - 1:50 PM, sunny

No restrooms

We saw people with dogs on leashes but Wesley stayed home since we knew we were going to a restaurant afterwards. The sign on the back side of the property stated that all animals should be on a leash not exceeding six feet.

With my husband, daughter, her boyfriend, and friends Melissa and Andrew, I walked in a mostly counterclockwise direction around Lake Audubon for 2.13 miles on a paved path. The unpaved oak-leaf-covered path looked like a slip-sliding moment just waiting for me so we chose to stay on the paved path. The paved paths had some slush at the edges but the warm weather made last weekend's cold and snow seem like a strange dream.

We passed many people enjoying the paths. Some were walking. Some were walking with their young companions who were practicing riding a two-wheeled bicycle. Some were walking with their excited dogs. There were a few trees downed on the trails, mostly likely recently downed in the winds during the past week's storm.

No long pants would be needed for the paths we followed today if we had been visited in warmer weather.

We did not find any ticks on our clothes when we returned to the vehicle. There is poison ivy or Virginia creeper on the trees at the edge of the paths.

Parking: a number of paved lots with room for 50+ vehicles between the police station and the senior center

There was some trash in the path and an abandoned McDonalds "barbie"-type doll at the base of a tree. I picked up the trash and the doll.

We did not see mosquitos today.

I saw maple, beech, tulip, birch, cherry, sycamore, oak, pine or hemlock, blue jay, chickadee, and a gray squirrel. In warmer weather, there will be ducks and geese. We saw evidence that the geese are still there this time of year but we did not see the geese.

No website for this site. I found this area using the two books pictured below.

Nearby:

Duff's Famous Wings, 550 Dick Road, Depew, New York 14043

Their wings and fries were yummy. Nice casual atmosphere and clean bathrooms. AND they were open on New Year's Day!

This sign did not really help us.

Pond at the back edge of the trails.

At the back edge of the property we saw this. Stay on the trails here because this part of the trail is basically in the back yards of the nearby houses.

This sign says all animals should be on a leash not exceeding six feet.

Numerous benches along the trails

This was the Duff's lunch special:

10 wings, fries, a side of soup or salad (I chose chili).
