Hatteras Island Ocean Center Boardwalk & Marsh Trail, Outer Banks, North Ca

August 2023

Address: I used Google Maps to: Cape Hatteras National Seashore, 57204 North Carolina 12 Mile Marker, 71, Hatteras,  Outer Banks, North Carolina.

Parking: Gravel, Room for 10+ vehicles

90 degrees at 1:38-1:48PM sunny

Not sure if toilets are available in the center.  It was closed.

Parking and entrance to the trail is free.

No signage addressed whether dogs were allowed.

The boardwalk is very short but I am a sucker for informational plaques. We walked .1 mile.

There was a ramp from the edge of the gravel parking area to access the boardwalk that would allow strollers or wheelchairs.

Our group had the boardwalk to ourselves until just as we were leaving.

The boardwalk was mostly in full sun.

I did not see any trash.

Mosquitos did not bother me.

This is an area where shorts would not be a problem.

I saw wildflowers, salt marsh grasses, and a variety of trees including coastal red cedar, wax myrtle, and marsh elder.

Nearby:

There is an ice cream shop attached to the nature center.  I did not get a chance to sample their offerings.
