There were no signs forbidding dogs, but Wesley stayed home today. I had read reviews commenting on the amount of poison ivy so I wanted him safely at home.
The trail has a natural surface that is mostly single file. There were benches and picnic tables so my husband and I were able to sit for a rest when we needed it. I am becoming stronger after my surgery this past winter, but a well-placed bench is very welcome.
We walked the loop for .9 miles. It was mostly level terrain with a few short inclines and declines. According to Google, we had 597 feet of total ascent; that number does not seem correct. There were some muddy areas but overall the trail was dry and drained.
There are geocaches in the area. We looked for and found one. (Www.geocaching.com has more information about the geocaching sport/hobby.)
Using a stroller would be challenging on this trail.
We had the trail to ourselves. Listening to the breeze dance through the trees' leaves and enjoying the way the sunlight dapples through the tree canopy was very calming and peaceful.
I saw (and picked up) a small piece of broken glass while on this trail, but the rest of the trail was litter free.
Mosquitos were out and active today, but the bug spray helped.
I am happier wearing long pants and close-toed hiking boots, and I felt they were appropriate choices for this trail.
There is poison ivy on the trees and the trails.
I saw chipmunks, squirrels, mosses, fern, daisy, buttercups, dandelions, blackberries, multifloral rose, mayapple, and a variety of tree species including mostly oak, maple, hickory, sycamore, and cherry.
