The Earl Cardot Eastside Overland Trail has more than one parking area.

Today, we used the parking area at the end of Meadows Road in Arkwright, NY. GPS coordinates for a Garmin are N42.22.850 W79.13.317.

67 degrees Fahrenheit, sunny

An outhouse is located near the lean tos and pond about .25 miles from the parking area described above. It does not get regular cleaning, and I would bring your own toilet paper.

Leashed dogs are welcome on the trails. Please bring baggies and carry out your trash and any dog poo.

No gnats or mosquitos at this time of year.

No cost to access these trails.

Parking for approximately 5 vehicles. The parking area is a gravel and dirt surface. We were the only vehicle at the parking area on a Friday afternoon.

Using this parking area allows for a short, mostly flat, easy walk to the pond at the lean tos. There is a working water pump at the pond. The trail was dry today. It also brings you to Trailhead C (by my paper map from the sign in box on the trail) so you can turn right and hike for miles if you want. If you turn left at the burnt corner sign, you will walk down a quiet pine-lined path to the lean tos and pond or Trailhead D. If you stay on this main trail you could probably wear shorts but I typically recommend long pants for the Cardot and Overland Trails.

Today I saw robins and a blue jay. The trout lilies are starting to peek through last fall’s leaf litter. Maples, cherry, and evergreen trees make this a beautiful trail year round.
