Parking: I used Google Maps to get to the Quaker Area Entrance for Allegany State Park, Allegany State Park Route ASP3 to enter the park from Route 83. I was not sure if I could park along the edge of the road or at the general store (marked as the Quaker store on the park map).
50s Fahrenheit; 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM with light breeze
Restrooms along the bike trail at the comfort station by the Indian Cabins.
There was no one at the gate collecting admission fees when I came to the park the day before this hike.
Dogs are supposed to be on a leash. Owners are supposed to pick up after their dogs and have the dog's rabies certificate available if asked to produce it. Wesley stayed home today.
The trail is marked on the park map and the link below. There is a wooden sign to mark its entrance.
The park map lists this as a 2.5 mile hike but we walked over three miles doing this very muddy walk after many days of rain.
The trail is single file. The first half of the loop is uphill and the second half of the loop was downhill. It had many beautiful shades of green but I preferred Bear Caves -Mt. Seneca (Trail #2) to this trail.
This is a natural surface trail with rough terrain, elevation, and numerous fallen trees so it would not be an enjoyable trail to attempt with a stroller.
We were passed by two families. (I walk slowly at the best of times and this trail was muddy with old slippery leaves.)
I did not see trash on the trail.
The mosquitos were not a bother today.
Parking: Dirt with some gravel at the ice cream shop. The lot might hold 10+ vehicles.
I saw and heard songbirds. I saw a squirrel. There were mosses, ferns, mayapple, buttercups, burdock, and a variety of tree species including hemlock, cherry, shagbark hickory, oaks and maples.
