Allegany State Park, Bike Trail along ASP3

Visited May 27, 2023

Parking:  I used Google Maps to get to the Quaker Area Entrance for Allegany State Park, Allegany State Park Route ASP3 to enter the park from Route 83.  I parked with friends at the Parallel cabins and we walked from where the trail is visible from ASP3 and headed back toward the park entrance and walked until we reached the general store with the ice cream shop.

70-80s Fahrenheit; 12:22 PM - 2:20 PM with light breeze

Restrooms along the trail at the comfort station by the Indian Cabins.

There was no one at the gate collecting admission fees at 9:15 AM on this Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend but the sign posts the fee at $7.00.

Dogs are supposed to be on a leash.  Owners are supposed to pick up after their dogs and have the dog's rabies certificate available if asked to produce it. Wesley stayed home today.

The trail is hard to miss.

We walked approximately 2.4 miles on this trail probably around 1.2 if we had only gone one way and not back tracked to our starting point.

The trail is wide so a group can walk this paved trail as long as they keep an ear out for bicyclists.  The trail included a slight steady decline from the Parallel Cabins to the ice cream shop which made use of a wheelchair a breeze on the way there but the incline made itself known on the return trip. There were shady and full sun sections of trail.  Some sections of trail were in full sun while other sections were shady as shown in the last picture.

This is a smoothly paved trail with bridges that allowed for travel via bicycle, stroller, and wheelchair.

We passed groups of people and a number of bicyclists.

I did not see trash on the trail.

The mosquitos were not a bother today today.

Parking: Dirt with some gravel at the ice cream shop.  The lot might hold 10+ vehicles.

I saw and heard songbirds. I saw a squirrel and chipmunk.  There were mosses, ferns, mayapple, buttercups, forget me nots, blackberry briars, teasel, burdock, and a variety of tree species including hemlock, cherry, shagbark hickory, oaks and maples.
