Evangola State Park

Visited July 23, 2022

Google Maps will get you there with: Evangola State Park, 10191 Old Lake Shore Road, Irving, NY 14081 [Old Lake Shore Road is also Route 5.]

82-84 degrees, 12:15 PM - 2:00 PM, sunny, humid, light breeze when not in the woods

There are numerous restroom facilities this time of year. In the winter, the heated bathroom with a warming room is in the building near parking .

Dogs on leashes are allowed in the park but not on the beach.

With my husband, daughter, friend Dave and his dog Panda, I walked/meandered 2.9 miles to the left of the beach as you are facing the lake after we explored the short concrete path through the natural habitat to the beach located to the right of the flagpole. Then we wandered to the "unmarked trails" as noted on the map. These overlap with a disc golf course and led us to the area near the yurts where we hung a left and followed a paved path to the covered bridge and then followed the road back to our parked cars. When I came here snowshoeing in January of 2021, I thought the trail was difficult to find because of the snow but this time visiting, we realized that it starts and stops for the first section which is why we had trouble finding the trail on both days. On both days, it was a pretty place to explore and that is what really matters.

We passed many people enjoying the park on this sunny, humid day: swimmers, people picnicking at the pavilions, and people playing disc golf. It was busy but not as packed as I had expected for a sunny day on Labor Day weekend.

No long pants would be needed for the paths we followed today as long as visitors can easily spot and avoid poison ivy.

We did not find any ticks on Panda after our travels. There is poison ivy in the park.

Parking: a number of paved lots with room for 50+ vehicles

There was some trash and broken glass along the trails nearest the camping slots and disc golf 1-3.

There were some mosquitos in the woods near the small creek.

I saw a variety of wildflowers including goldenrod and mullien, trees including maples and sycamores, and a chipmunk.

The building to the left in this pic has a bathroom and warming room.

We followed this short curving, concrete path to the beach and then retraced our path back to the flagpole.
